October 2009
North Salt Lake, Utah – In celebration of National Dyslexia Month, Reading Horizons has compiled a webpage dedicated to providing free resources and information to help those who are impacted by Dyslexia. It is estimated that 10% of the U.S. population struggles with Dyslexia.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, projects that the number of people is even higher, believing 15% of the U.S. population could suffer from this learning disability. That equates to 46 million Americans. Dyslexia affects people of every background and every intelligence level. Awareness of this disability is highly beneficial to its possessors. The sooner the signs and symptoms are uncovered; the sooner one can begin to learn how to manage the disability and learn to develop correct habits and skills to find success in the future. This personal awareness can be gained through use of the Dyslexia Assessment, created by Reading Horizons. Assessments of the same stamina can often be very costly and require setting up an appointment with a specialist but Reading Horizons is offering it for free to people who visit www.ReadingHorizonsAtHome.com. Although consultation with a specialist should be sought, this assessment can help people recognize whether or not this is a necessary step.
Other compelling elements of this webpage include articles explaining the symptoms of Dyslexia and myths surrounding this learning disability. The webpage offers information on the diagnosis and testing of Dyslexia, strategies for overcoming Dyslexia, and research about this learning disability. This resource can be found at: www.readinghorizonsathome.com/dyslexia.aspx
The importance of National Dyslexia Month and awareness of the learning disability in general is captured with the words of Girard Sagmiller, writer of "Dyslexia My Life": "Dyslexia is not a disease to have and to be cured of, but a way of thinking and learning. Often it's a gifted mind waiting to be found and taught."
